Sacred Worship

Our Liturgical Life

Liturgy at St. Matia Mulumba Parish reflects both the universal Catholic tradition and the rich cultural heritage of Uganda. Our worship draws from the Roman Rite in both Luganda and English, enriched by African rhythms, traditional hymns, and vibrant community participation.

We celebrate all seven sacraments, observe the full liturgical calendar โ€” from Advent through to Ordinary Time โ€” and maintain a rich tradition of Marian devotions, including the Rosary, novenas, and the Angelus.

Our Music Ministry

Music is central to our worship. St. Matia Mulumba Parish is home to multiple music ensembles that serve different Masses throughout the week:

Adult Choir

English and Luganda classical and contemporary hymns. Sings at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM Sunday Masses. Rehearsals: Fridays 6:00 PM.

Praise & Worship Band

Contemporary praise music. Leads worship at the 11:00 AM Sunday Family Mass. Rehearsals: Saturdays 4:00 PM.

Schola Cantorum

Chant and classical sacred music for special feasts and Triduum liturgies.

Youth Choir

Young voices for the 5:00 PM Sunday Mass. Open to ages 14โ€“30. Rehearsals: Sundays after 9:00 AM Mass.

We welcome singers, instrumentalists, and worship leaders. No formal training required โ€” just a heart for worship.

Liturgical Ministries

Beyond music, our parish is blessed with dedicated volunteers who serve at every Mass:

Altar Servers +
Young men and women serve at the altar during Mass. Training sessions are held monthly. Open to youth aged 10 and above.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion +
Trained lay ministers who assist with the distribution of Communion at Mass and bring the Eucharist to the homebound and hospitalised.
Lectors & Readers +
Proclaim the Word of God at Mass. Training in public reading and scripture is provided. Contact the parish office to join.
Ushers & Welcomers +
Greet and seat parishioners, manage collections, and ensure orderly worship. Serve on a rotating Sunday roster.
Sacristans +
Prepare the altar, vessels, vestments, and chapel for each Mass. Serve quietly and faithfully behind the scenes.
